Thiking Space Console Fujairah

Fujairah Air Traffic Services, Fujairah airport is around 1½ hours from Dubai and is one of the up and coming Emirates. With both a passenger terminal and freight hub the airport has been growing in traffic year on year.

With new investment the aging infstructure was upgraded with the latest communications and radar equipment. As part of this work Thinking Space was recommended to the engineers as a key partner.

As a result of new equipment, a new ergonomic approach radar console was required. Built into the existing room the new layout had to have capacity for growth as well as house both old and new equipment.

Fujairah Airport’s current equipment had to be replaced and upgraded while keeping the airport open. The engineers also wanted a high quality, flexible solution so as more investment was made avalible the console could be easily altered. The building itself was not being changed so the new console had to include the additional power distribution and both low and high level lighting finished off by back lit map display boards.

Thinking Space recommended the TSS system used to build aluminium consoles. The solution maximised the flexibility but also gave the room the “wow” factor that the engineers we looking for. The console had to look good as the controllers had to work for long periods at the console. A Thinking Space engineer attended site to measure up and get the initial equipment measured, which was backed up by good communication from the manufacturing site in the UK and the Fujairah engineers to ensure every item was housed perfectly.

The design was supported by full cad-design and the use of 3D rendered images gave the client a real indication of the solution before the build was started. Bays for expansion were blanked off to give a finished feel despite equipment not being in place and the console was constructed by Thinking Space employed staff on site. In addition during the build the local engineers were trained on how to make changes and adjustments to the console for future.
