Wayne’s ‘mad dash’ to France

 In Blog

With the windy sea becoming too rough for even the most adventurous of us over the colder months, September 2nd saw the last RORC (Royal Ocean Racing Club) race based within British and French waters – the 2016 RORC Cherbourg Race.

Wayne’s mad dash to France began in Cowes. The 75 mile trip to Cherbourg was completed by Wayne and his fellow crew of 7, within 12 hours.  The result meant the team were awarded 3rd position!

With over 700 sailors due to take part, this was truly an amazing feat. Wayne commented  “it was perfect conditions for the first 40 miles which gave us a good advantage over some of the fleet. To finally get a podium finish was the icing on the cake”.

However time wasn’t on their side, as they quickly made their way back home after only 10 minutes spent in the vicinity. The quickest trip to France imaginable, the crew bypassed Cowes and instead returned safely to Hamble to celebrate their victory, with a good night’s sleep and some warm blankets!
