Will Thinking Space control room feature in the new Star Wars film?
The latest in the Star Wars saga, featuring the story of Hans Solo, is currently being filmed at Fawley Power Station in Hampshire, where Thinking Space Systems installed control room furniture in 2010 and 2013. Will a Thinking Space control room feature in the new Star Wars film?
The Daily Echo have reported that the new film, with the working title “Red Cup” is currently on location at Fawley Power Station, with photos of the filming now released, featuring ships, Stormtroopers and CGI screens.
Back in 2010, Thinking Space installed brand new ergonomic control room furniture within the main Power Station control room and visitor reception area for clients’ RWE Npower. Then again, in 2013, more control room consoles were required to equip the facility for its role as a STOR (short term operating reserve) to the National Grid.
In 2014, Thinking Space returned to the site to undertake a video photo shoot of the current modern control room furniture, which is ideal for process industries worldwide. Fawley Power Station is an interesting location, steeped in 1960’s history with an impressive industrial design. The main control room still retains some of the original features that were installed when it was commissioned in 1971, including it’s consoles, making it an ideal film set for programmes of this era.
No stranger to the world of media, two years ago, the site played host to Tom Cruise and the film crew of Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation. The final film featured scenes at the Power Station. Previously, the control room was used to represent the “world control center” building in the movie Rollerball, as well as British medical comedy Green Wing, an episode of Red Dwarf, Channel 4’s Spies and the final episode of Endeavour.
Whether the control room features in the latest movie, let’s wait and see…
The film is due for release in May 2018. In the meantime, watch the case study video of the control room at Fawley Power Station.
