A Trip Down Rose Road
Paul and Suzanne took a trip down Rose Road last week, when they were invited to their Charity of the Year’s home to find out more about the work they do.
Rose Road Association operates from the Bradbury Centre, based in Lordshill, Southampton. It is a purpose built facility which opened in 2003. Head of Fundraising Chloe Atkins, gave Paul and Suzanne a tour of the building and all the facilities it has to offer young people with disabilities.
Supporting children and young adults from 0-25 years across Hampshire, they provide respite care, activity playschemes, outreach services, assisted living for young adults and family support hotlines. They are just about to open a new learning facility for age 19+ adults, to fill the current gap in education provision for this age.
The centre offers it’s facilities for hire to families, groups and schools. The state of the art sensory room is a marvellous addition, giving light, sound, touch and objects to interact with to aid communication. And so relaxing there too! Their soft play area is great for entertaining children, with a handy kitchen area, and the hydrotheraphy pool provides essential physiotherapy and exercise.
It was great to see the facilities and improvements the charity has made, but of course it all costs money to improve and maintain these facilities. After delivering our latest fundraising collection, we are looking forward to announcing what this money has done to support the charity, so watch this space for further details.
