Last week, Neil took the opportunity to return to the recent control room upgrade we have undertaken at Aston University. Whilst taking a few photos of the new control room, Neil also had the opportunity to see more of what the University has to offer, and came across X-Ray Ed. Yep…yet another mascot to add to Neil’s collection of selfies.
Sponsored by Aston Medical School, X-Ray Ed is a large bear sculpture (above) and was one of 100 individually designed as a fundraising initiative at the University. The “Big Sleuth” public art trail took place in 2017, with the aim of raising funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Since then, the bear has taken up residence there, being loaned out to go on display.
Neil was able to learn more about Aston Medical School. They seek to create a more diverse medical profession by encouraging young people from less advantaged, minority and non-medical backgrounds to consider a career in medicine.
