The Three Peaks Challenge
Whilst most of us took the bank holiday weekend to enjoy an extra day’s rest and complain about the weather, Project Manager Sam McStay took on The Three Peaks Challenge.
Raising money for Cancer Research, Sam and his team ‘The Bushwackers” have so far raised £3,500 in this formidable event.
The Three Peaks Challenge is a famous endurance test for fundraising. It involves hiking up and down three peaks in the UK. These consist of Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales… and all in 24 hours!
The team are friends with varying degrees of little or no hiking experience. To take on this challenge in itself was a challenge!
Starting out at 7am on Saturday morning for the Snowdon peak, they completed the challenge, descending Ben Nevis at 8am on Sunday morning.
Sam has impressed us all with his stats…
Total distance = 37.66km
Highest elevation = 2999m
Number of steps = 61033
Total walking time = 12 hrs, 48 minutes
And what was Sam’s appraisal of the event?
“That is by far the hardest thing I have ever done, and I am glad it’s over!”
Hopefully not to be renamed "The Bush Knackered” now, if you would like to donate to this great cause, please visit their justgiving page.
